In 1888, W.W. Gibbs grasped the opportunity and founded Electric StorageBattery, which made the independent energy storage device a reality, thus promoting the development of the Electric lighting industry in the United States.
In 1890, the company installed the first practical battery in Philadelphia, and used 13,000 single batteries to provide electric power for streetcars, becoming the first road vehicle with its own power supply.
